Grounded

I start everyday the same; coffee fills the air as its rich aromatic flavors release into the air. The steam from my coffee cup warms my face like the soothing cup of joe that makes its way down my freshly woken body. Cinnamon and vanilla to start the day off sweet. A particular mug is picked playing an homage to the city girl at heart.

The simple task of making a coffee may not seem so impactful nor satisfying, but the importance is being able to be present with yourself.

Rituals ground so many of us. The ritual of making, and having, a cup of coffee brings a peace of mind to so many of us. We become more stable. Rituals become symbolic acts reminding human beings that time should fulfill us, not scare us.

I’ve seen the importance of being present with myself. Feeling emotions that remind me of making a cup of coffee. Staying in touch with myself has taught me self love and stability. I feel myself drifting away from overconsumption and possessing “things.” Detaching myself from tasks I considered rituals- realizing that they were never those to begin with. I’ve learned that, you can’t consume things, but emotions you can.

Feeling more grounded is like, finally being able to breathe without skipping a beat.

I hope to share these similar experiences and emotions with my new community. I hope to continue to pour into other aspects of my life the same as I do with myself.
